Congratulations to Erin Vobornik, winner of the DSNA Fellowship at the 2013 Linguistics Institute. Erin's BA is in French and she is currently in her second year of graduate school at Northern Illinois University. Erin writes, "My professional goals are to use my love of linguistics to help others. I am interested in dictionary compilation for under-represented languages. These dictionaries not only function as a corpus for other researchers, but also as a medium through which a language community can see its own language as important globally. This fellowship allows me to learn key skills that will help me achieve my goals and contribute to open-sharing of information."
The DSNA Fellowship supports the tuition of a student enrolled in a DSNA-sponsored lexicography class at Linguistic Society of America's Summer Linguistic Institute. In 2013, the Linguistic Institute will be held at the University of Michigan. "Lexicography in Natural Language Processing" will be taught by DSNA president Orin Hargraves. For more information, visit the Linguistic Institute's snazzy website. Enrollment for the Summer Institute opens on March 15!
